“Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; talk of all His wondrous works!”
1 Chronicles 16:9 (NKJV)
~The “Sandy Cook Story” ~
God is amazing how he uses His gifts He gives us to work them for the Kingdom..
2005, Sandy Cook and Jim McVey our local Scottish fiddler (then) gave a performance at the Bay Vue Outdoor festival. The peninsula heard Sandy on the keyboard for the first time (she and Husband Lee, had just moved here). Oh, what talent and God given gifts.
Over the years Sandy has shared her past~ Sandy’s Mom, Ms. Charlene,
was a child Evangelist and believed her first 3 musically talented kids were anointed with musical gifts from God; she wanted to share their gifts as she had shared hers as a child.
Around 1957, parents Arthur &Charlene Mobley packed up their family and relocated to Whittier, California. “The Little Mobley Trio” (Joe, Sandy & Roger) continued playing at revivals, churches, school carnivals and other such venues until they were presented on television’s Ted Mack’s Original Amateur Hour, Original Mickey Mouse club (Mouseketeers), Walt Disney Specials& Westinghouse Specials that Ronald Reagan hosted. Sandy’s Mobley Trio also were guests at the Grand Ole Opry with Willie Nelson & Minnie Pearl.
Sandy was an accordion player then
(by ear of course) and she was not fond of acting then ~ (still is
Sandy married Lee Cook, had 2 children in the 60s and never owned a piano until the 80s~ Floyd Cramer was her influence. Sandy started creating Praise &Worship teams from Vidor to Beaumont (1990-2004). Then, 2005 Crystal Beach received the “Gift”!
After Hurricane Katrina 2005, Sandy was asked to play for Women’s Celebration. She wanted a band with Guitars & vocals ~ 2006 “Sanctuary Sisters” was birthed:
Sandy Cook, Alana Adams, Susan Shafer & Gerry Lang~ Gigs galore ~
Churches, nursing homes, birthdays, local plays, Texas Crab Fest Gospel hour, School fund raisers& monthly women’s Celebrations, Sunrise services, funerals & Christmas gigs!
“Oh Happy Day” those were.
Then, Ike came and Alana & Susan lost their homes & relocated.
Sandy played at BVUMC and led a praise team until 2012 and by God’s Grace , Sandy accepted Pastor C. L. Garey’s calling to start a Praise & Worship team at Crystal Beach Community Church January 6, 2013. And it keeps growing~ we have a powerful team of 12 singers (at times) & a string section ~ it’s all good. It’s God’s work through an amazing woman of excellence, Sandy Cook!
